Fog Lights

Like other Outlaw owners, I just wasn't happy with the factory headlights and the fact that they are so hard to adjust, and the light quality left much to be desired.  After a close call with a concrete highway divider (which jumped right out of the lane, I swear!) I thought that adding a set of fog lights might be a good supplement to safety.

After looking around the market, I discovered that KC has a set of 55 watt lights recommended for RV's.  Now, if you're like me, and have any off road 4x4 experience, you'd think that's rather puny compared to some of the other lights on the market.  But after taking an informal survey of others who had them, I decided to give it a shot.

The hard part was trying to figure out how to mount those puppies without drilling into the plastic nose piece.  I finally talked to a buddy at the local welding shop and they manufactured a set of "L" type brackets from aluminum for me; another buddy with a body shop, sprayed them with truck liner so they came out black in color to blend into the grill.

They're mounted to existing bolts on the (Freightliner) frame, sticking through the grill about 3 inches.  I drilled holes for both ends for mounting.

As you can see, they are mounted just using one (1) existing bolt holding it to the frame.

This is the other end coming through the grille - honestly, I had to play around with which bolt to use from the frame to figure out where was the best place for them to extrude through the grill.  Yours may vary.

The finished product.  From this location, the lights put about 100-150 feet of illumination on the highway, yet are mounted low enough that I seldom get other drivers "flashing" me for high beams.  Albeit I was a little reluctant to believe that 55 watts was going to do the trick, so far it's worked just fine for my application.
